[Solitude – Snow Leopard – Reconnection]

The latest mural I did in Hong Kong. Located in Central, Hong Kong, and it will remain here for a minimum of two months. This wall is provided by La Cabane, and it’s a rotation wall that artists can apply all year round. I applied this with the help from a fellow artist in Hong Kong @neillhw, who was supposed to paint with me but later was occupied with work and I got to paint the entire wall on my own. I took this as an opportunity to have a break from commercial ties and just painted whatever I want.

To be honest I didn’t have much concepts before painting the wall, but the first thing that came into my mind soon after was snow leopard. The initial sketch only consisted of one snow leopard, the one in the middle, but others were added later as further practice of its hair and facial forms. I admire the gracefulness of the creature and the solitude it seems to possess, being surrounded by snowy mountains and harsh terrains. Graceful yet fearless, seems perfectly content at its territory. Somehow it reflects my inner desire of being content within harsh environments, graceful yet fearless.

There is a very subtle progression of ways to demonstrate its hair and forms, probably only noticeable by me, but already it’s a huge step for me. Mural is a great way to rediscover and reconnect with oneself. Life to me seems to be a journey of rediscovery, evaluation and reconnection.

Thank you everyone who helped me throughout the week and thank you La Cabane for giving freedom to paint what I want with no compromises. It’s a good break from commercial murals allows me to review my work and myself.

K11 MUSEA

Thursday, August 29th, 2019

A series of artwork for K11 Musea, the project theme was “Kidult”, to create a series of artwork which would attract young adult and explore the meaning behind the word and create my own interpretation of it. Artwork includes a column, titled “The Leap”, which explores the psychology of millenials and their limitless potential, constantly taking a leap of faith to challenge in life and celebrates their courage.

In addition, a gigantic artwork was hand painted on the floor, which echoes the same idea of the column.

This piece was done in black and white with gold as anotehr layer for the grapes, while coffee plants are intertwined within. Transparent UV paint was added to the eyes of the leopard. The overall idea centred around the mythical God of “Dionysus”, God of Wine and Theatre, which often depicted with a leopard as the guardian of the deity. Coffee element was added to suit the brand nature of Interval Coffee Bar.

DBS Bank Window Artwork

Thursday, August 29th, 2019

A series of murals was created for DBS bank, Hong Kong. They were either done on walls or windows. When it comes to painting on glass, it’s difficult since all the sketches and positioning happen only in your head and how to create a consistent flow of ink with your marker, lines are often fading as you come to the end of the stroke. The aim of the project was to provide a more inspiring and artistic environment for their employees in office.

The Chaos – Bound Mural

Thursday, August 29th, 2019

An experimental piece exploring the possibilites of creating different layers with different types of paint on a poorly maintained wall. The project aims to explore the idea of turning existing flaws of the wall into meaningful elements of the mural. The mural itself is done with my usual detail oriented marker based drawing, while the wall itself was so poorly maintained, filled with holes and cracks, a layer of gold paint was applied to create another layer, giving those flaws a new definition. A layer of UV paint was applied right at the end to add another layer of details when exposed in black light. The result is a mural with different depth when shown under different lights, a new possibilities and direction of my work.
