WALLSKAR is a street art festival in Hong Kong and China. In 2019, it took place at the The Youth Outreach, Sai Wan Ho, Hong kong. I was collaborating with a friend to complete a piece, artist Satrxx from China.
A series of murals was created for DBS bank, Hong Kong. They were either done on walls or windows. When it comes to painting on glass, it’s difficult since all the sketches and positioning happen only in your head and how to create a consistent flow of ink with your marker, lines are often fading as you come to the end of the stroke. The aim of the project was to provide a more inspiring and artistic environment for their employees in office.
An experimental piece exploring the possibilites of creating different layers with different types of paint on a poorly maintained wall. The project aims to explore the idea of turning existing flaws of the wall into meaningful elements of the mural. The mural itself is done with my usual detail oriented marker based drawing, while the wall itself was so poorly maintained, filled with holes and cracks, a layer of gold paint was applied to create another layer, giving those flaws a new definition. A layer of UV paint was applied right at the end to add another layer of details when exposed in black light. The result is a mural with different depth when shown under different lights, a new possibilities and direction of my work.
A mural design for Starbucks Singapore. Located in Singapore, One Fullerton. A reinterpretation of the Siren, while depicting landmarks of Singapore. A different approach compare to ones I did in Shanghai and Hong Kong. This time the Siren is facing side way, to emphasise her flow in a more dynamic, elegant way.
The Sumatran Tiger mural (3m(H) x 10m(W))- The biggest mural in this project, the objective of the mural is a pictorial introduction of Starbucks heritage with a touch of Shanghai local cultures. Three animals are often depicted in Starbucks merchandises and each of them represents a region where major coffee farms are located around the world. Elephant represents African region, Quatzal bird represents Latin America region and lastly Sumatran tiger for Asia Pacific. With Sumatran Tiger represents the Asia Pacific region and includes local Shanghai landmarks and elements: White Yulan (Shanghai City flower), Oriental Pearl Tower, The Bund, etc… the mural aims to bring all elements in harmony to echo the fusion of Starbucks with local cultures.
